My Story

Hello, my name is Diana. I’m a registered nurse, speaker and teacher with a deep interest in safety culture, leadership and wellbeing in healthcare.

Across my career, I’ve worked alongside healthcare leaders and teams navigating complexity, constant change and high demands. I’ve seen what it looks like when environments support people to thrive and when they don’t, including through my own leadership journey.

Over time, and through my own experience, I became increasingly aware of the way leadership, culture and wellbeing shape not only how we show up for ourselves and those around us, but also the safety and quality of the care we provide.

My professional, personal and academic experiences have reinforced that leadership support, employee wellbeing and the delivery of safe, high-quality care are not separate conversations, they are deeply connected.

Be Well, Lead Well grew from this, coupled with my passion for supporting individuals to recognise the impact they have on the culture around them.

What I bring:

  • Clinical and Leadership experience spanning frontline clinician through to operational and system-level roles in healthcare.
  • A focus on safety culture, leadership, workforce wellbeing and teaching shaped by practice and academic learning.
  • Lived experience of leadership burnout, recovery and ongoing self-development

Everything I do is guided by three principles

  1. Guidance: I help make sense of complexity and find clarity in the challenges you are facing.
  2. Care: I lead with care, creating space for honest conversations and keeping the human side of leadership at the centre.
  3. Growth: My focus is on continuous learning and improvement for individuals, teams and systems that leads to meaningful change.

MY EXPERIENCE

A Registered Nurse by background, I bring over 20 years’ experience across clinical practice, leadership, and system-level roles in healthcare. Rooted in Emergency and Paediatric Critical Care, the sustained demands of high-pressure environments and leadership ultimately led me to experience burnout. This became a turning point in my career, prompting me to step back and reflect on what is needed to sustain both performance and wellbeing.

Through this, I saw how safety culture and performance are often not well balanced, and how overlooking its impact on staff wellbeing can quietly damage culture, employee engagement and care quality over time.

Driven to understand this more, I shifted my focus to the intersection of employee wellbeing, leadership, and organisational systems. I translated evidence into practical guidance for healthcare leaders to assess, monitor, and improve safety culture across health services, and completed a Masters of Health Administration focused on health promotion and the influence of system design and leadership behaviours on workforce wellbeing and performance.

I remain clinically active, ensuring my practice and understanding of operational realities stay current, while also contributing to the education and development of the next generation of nurses through academic teaching.

I am passionate about sharing my experience to inspire reflection and action, and have spoken at professional forums and events with audiences committed to creating safer, healthier, and more sustainable workplaces.

Through Be Well, Lead Well, I bring together my clinical, leadership, and system-level experience to support individuals, teams, and organisations to be well and lead well.
